Class 4~ Dinosaurs DO Exist
Fun Fact: This molecular biologist has spent 13 years in college to become a successful blue dinosaur! This week I had the pleasure to walk with the Museum of the Earth and the Cayuga Nature Center in the Ithaca Festival Parade. Naturally, I was a skateboarding butterfly who promoted the summer camp with hundreds of bookmarks and high-fives. This week was incredibly fun! After another meeting with a few people from the Nature Center and The Museum, we decided that I will be taking on full responsibility for organizing and curating the geology collections and develop education and outreach based on the collections. For the Lava Project, I will be there for planning, meetings with collaborators, and helping
to design Ed and Outreach components of the proposal to NSF in November. I am one excited butterfly!

Woah Brett! That sounds awesome...especially the skateboarding butterfly part! Also, I'm sure you're stoked about curating the geology collections, and I bet your work at FLMNH is really gonna help with the outreach! Anyways, that sounds super exciting! Are you staying in Ithaca past this summer?
ReplyDeleteHahaha thanks! The parade was really fun. One thing I didn't expect during the parade was the peoples' reaction to my handouts and bookmarks. You know how in Turlington people try to avoid eye contact and are usually annoyed by people who hand out flyers? Not Ithaca. The kids and parents alike were acting like I was handing out hundred dollar bills! It was really quite inspiring. I will not be staying in Ithaca past this summer since I will be back in Gainesville on August 6th for our presentations.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so fun! I don't know if there is anything better than an excited high-five…but it sounds like you are getting a lot of responsibility. That's awesome, you must be so pumped! It is great to see fellow interns taking on so much responsibility and doing big things!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I know nothing about organizing and curating collections, that sounds really fun! It looks like you're going to have your hands full this summer. Can't wait to hear more about this geology collection! Or maybe even see you skateboard!
